DEVELOPMENT

We’re doing what we really want to do. And together, we keep getting better at it.

Whether in our first year or after more than 15 in Sustainability Consulting, we are all here to grow – as a company, but more importantly, as human beings. That’s why we’re honest with each other and enjoy open communication so that everyone can develop the most. That’s one reason why we cooperate with a tier-one strategy consultancy. And that’s why we make generous training and coaching budgets available to every team member from day one.

NETWORK

Deep expertise from our network.

Our focus is on the positive change of companies in the real economy, not the commercial scaling of our sustainability consulting. To achieve greater impact, we work with selected experts. Their in-depth knowledge of topics, methods and industries as well as their life and project experience make us even more powerful together.

ENGAGEMENT

Direct impact in our backyard. And worldwide.

We are careful with our resources and profitable from day one. This gives us the opportunity to make small contributions to what we want to help bring about on a much larger scale: a good life for everyone within planetary boundaries.

Mangroves planted

REFORESTATION

The roots of ecosystems and livelihoods.

Forests play a central role for carbon sequestration, as bastions of biodiversity, and as vital ecosystems for local communities. We’re working with our partner Eden Reforestation Projects to plant a million mangroves in Haiti, Madagascar, and Mozambique since 2021. This helps capture CO2, finances over 9,000 working days, and strengthens the coasts and fisheries that sustain local livelihoods.

EXPERIMENTAL FOREST

The future of our forests in 3 hectares.

Climate change is also bringing about critical changes to forests in Germany. We are experimenting on our own three-hectare forest in Brandenburg with various agroforestry methods to see how the resilient forests of the future could look like – a forest that could at once serve as a CO2 sink, a biodiversity reserve, a source of food, and an inspiring meeting place.

FOREST PROTECTION

Wir schützen die Wälder,
die uns schützen.

We protect the forests that protect us.

Reforestation projects may be popular, but they don’t replace protection of existing forests. Especially the old stocks that have stored away lots of CO2 over the centuries and house complex ecosystems. We were inspired by Wilderness International and have already begun to protect our first areas. In addition, we are currently looking for ways to effectively protect 100 hectares of forest in the long term.

Philipp Buddemeier

Founder and CEO

For over 20 years, Philipp has been deeply committed to the topic of sustainability. He began his career Bain & Co but quickly transitioned to work as an international change manager at Save the Children. He then spent several years as a project manager at McKinsey before helping to scale circular economy advisory work at Accenture Strategy. In between, he successfully founded a circular economy start-up and found that running his own business enabled him to build longterm expertise and to develop and implement his own quality and impact standards with purpose and consistency. That’s why he founded Better Earth in 2020 and, more recently, Marvelous, a deeptech venture capital firm, in 2023.

Sebastian Philipps

Sebastian wants to see people and companies take action. To consequently support them in this, he founded Better Earth together with Philipp. Previously, he developed visions for a future economy at a “think and do tank,” designed market interventions for the Asian Development Bank, advised large companies on sustainability at Accenture Strategy, and built a team on the future of food for the Bahlsen Family—always looking for more leverage, speed, and immediacy in implementing sustainability transformation. After more than 15 years, he still rejoices in every step forward.

Fenja Bremer

Manager

For over five years, Fenja has been translating the forces of science and a drive for transformation into entrepreneurial action. During her studies in economics and political science, she focused on environmental economics and finance. In her roles at the United Nations and the German Foreign Office, she was determined to actively contribute to systemic change. Her work on decarbonizing the transport sector and advancing human rights in supply chains deepened her conviction that business holds immense potential for dynamic transformation. At Better Earth, she supports companies with a sciencebased yet pragmatic approach - including the development of sustainability strategies, climate targets, sustainable supply chains, and the implementation of (future) regulations such as the CSRD and CSDDD.

Birgit Klesper

Senior Advisor Sustainability

Birgit Klesper has a decade long track record in leading sustainability teams. Her leadership has been recognised by a number of prestigious distinctions, including the German Sustainability Award, which she received for the sustainability performance of Deutsche Telekom.

Birgit Klesper is an honorary Chairwoman of the board of “econsense“ (Forum Nachhaltige Entwicklung der Deutschen Wirtschaft e.V.). She has also been a member of the board of “Global e-Sustainability Initiative”, of the Board of trustees of “Aktion Deutschland hilft” (alliance of German aid organizations) and of the German “CSR-Forum”.

Kuin Kurosch Mehrabizadeh-Honarmand

Consultant

Kuin is fascinated by the tension between society, ecology, and economics, and between concepts and their implementation. At Better Earth, Kuin supports companies in bridging these tensions, with transformational results. Previously, Kuin gained practical experience in production and sustainability management at a fashion label, as well as conceptual depth in strategy consulting at the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies. Kuin's education also combined practical sustainability issues in the textile industry with strategic management at Copenhagen Business School.

Ilyana Soloviev

Junior Consultant

Ilyana combines an economic perspective with a genuine passion for sustainability. At Better Earth, she supports companies in effectively integrating ESG criteria. Her time working at tax firms and the Federal Employment Agency has honed her understanding of processes and her eye for detail. Her studies in business administration with a focus on environmental and financial management, as well as her time at Better Earth, shape her strategic perspective and her focus on corporate sustainability.

Daniel Schmitz-Remberg

Partner – (Project-based)

When, more than 15 years ago, Daniel Schmitz-Remberg as a young sustainability consultant, conducted initial projects, topics like materiality analysis, respective strategies, and business cases were uncharted waters for many companies. In his further career, he shaped the development of “Corporate Sustainability”, especially when transformation was at stake.Just a report does not make anything greener – still a cornerstone of transparency what is asked for by regulations today. This could become a vital trigger for real impact tomorrow.

In partnership with BetterEarth, Daniel´s long-year experience contributes to integrating sustainability into business processes along the value chain in a viable way.

Thomas Krick Netzwerkpartner Better Earth

He also led Deloitte’s sustainability offering in Germany, worked as an independent advisor to corporates, investors, foundations and civic actors and built software solutions that help mid-sized companies advance towards sustainability.
